Moving off in a car usually doesn’t take much thought, however, it can make the difference of passing or failing your driving test, so it’s important that you move off correctly and safely.

Use your mirrors to check that the road is clear, checking your blind spots at the same time to ensure no pedestrians or vehicles are coming up besides you. Hold your foot down on the clutch and push the gear stick into first gear. Use your indicators to signal your intentions before doing one final check that the road is clear and safe to move off.

Gently push the accelerator pedal down and steet carefully onto the road while slowly releasing the clutch as you accelerate. Change into second gear as soon as possible.
