How long is a driving test?

On average, the driving part of the practical test will last around 40 minutes, this will however depend on the examiner and road and traffic conditions. Before driving you will be asked to complete an eyesight test to make sure that you can read a number plate from 20m for vehicles with a new style number plate, and 20.5m for vehicles with an old style number plate. Then you will be asked a number of vehicle safety questions, these are called “Show Me, Tell Me” questions.
The extended driving test lasts around 70 minutes. This test is longer and more demanding that a normal driving test. It will cover a wider variety of roads, including dual carriageways if possible.
