Learn to drive with either weekly driving lessons or an Intensive Driving Course.
Whether you’re pulling away after being parked or are about to pull away in traffic, a hill start can be nerve wracking for any new driver. To begin, you should always start with your handbrake up to avoid your car from rolling backwards.
Push the clutch down to the floor and select the first gear. Push down gently on the accelerator and bring the clutch up to biting point, while checking if it is safe to to move. Gradually push down further on the accelerator and bring the clutch up slowly. As the car begins to move, you should take the foot completely away from the clutch and then switch to second gear.
When driving up a hill, remember to stay in a lower gear in order to build up enough power to get to the top of the hill.
